The New York Jets are still hiring for the position of assistant football coach, but the New York Post is reporting that the team is now hiring for its full-time position as an assistant coach.
The post cites two sources, one of which is a person familiar with the hiring process, as saying that the position is being filled at a rate of 10 to 12 per year.
The Jets are expected to hire a new head coach at some point in 2017.
ESPN reported in October that the Jets were interested in hiring former Clemson defensive coordinator Kirby Smart for their full-timers.
The NFL said at the time that the NFLPA was reviewing the hiring of assistant coaches.
A league spokesman told ESPN that it had no comment on the Post report.
