‘Unemployment is so high’: What to know about the government’s unemployment claims

The U.S. government says it has reported 6.4 million unemployed people, down from the previous estimate of 7.2 million.

The unemployment rate is down to 6.3%, which is the lowest since the Great Recession.

But unemployment remains stubbornly high in many parts of the country.

“The number of Americans out of work is so extreme that the government has reported a rate of 6.2 percent,” Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Monday at a press conference.

“We are still in the early stages of the recovery.

In terms of people out of the labor force, that number is still very, very high, especially given that the unemployment rate has risen.”
